On this lake the fish are never really very far away. The majority of anglers fish the caravan bank swims as they offer a place for a good social.
The fish on the other hand stay well away and hug the far margin opposite.
The use of a baitboat on this lake will increase you chances of catching by 100% as you can position your bait “exactly” on the spot. You need to be within 1 meter of the margin when fishing like this to score.
The side margins are very similar with fishing close being the order of the day. It is ironic that one of the biggest fish out last year (47lb) came from just under the rod tips !!! But…the angler was fishing alone on the lake and kept well away from the rods and kept very, very quiet.
The middle of the lake catches but has no real features to fish to. There was a weed bed but this has now been eaten I think? Zig rigs can work as can surface fishing in the right conditions.
On this lake we have the dreaded Poisson Chats but this does not need to be a problem at all!! All you need to do is fish the lake with the right baits. If you use a soft fishmeal bait then I’m sorry but in the warmer months your bait will last 30 seconds.!!!! It can be that bad!
If however you fish with Air dried boilies or a hard boilie with a sleeve for protection you will catch fish. The milk protein and sweet fruity boilies can work better than a fish meal and of course the use of Particle is the best. Maize by the bucket load mixed with Tigers, Hemp, Oats and any other nut particle will work a treat. This can be binded with the use of a Vitalin type powder and makes a good feeder bait.
Other methods are more extreme.
The feeding off approach is one. This means literally what it says and by feeding off the Poisson Chats they then leave you alone.
So, £10 a kg for your nice super dooper soft fishmeal boilies and £150 later you have fed the Poisson Chats!! Great !
