Bills Lake 1
The weather over here has caused some real problems during the summer………

The water levels at the moment are really good with the lakes full and looking lovely. The water temperatures are also very good with an average temperature of 23.c. all in all with all things being equal they should be fishing its head off….Wrong !!!

The lake has seen a lot of pressure over the last 4 months and early season results were just amazing.

We have had a new lake record out in May with a stonking 57lbs 12 Mirror coming off the Poachers Swim. This along with a couple of other 50lbs++ made us all think the season was going to be the best yet!

By June the temperature rose to over 35.c. which is very unusual for this part of France . The normal temperature for this time should be about the mid 20’s.With the heat came the sunbathing and the fish were enjoying the sun as much as the anglers. All the fish in the lake were “on the top” and having none of it. The lake had a little more margin weed than previous years but nothing to worry about.

The anglers have tried “EVERYTHING” in their arsenal with zig rigs, floaters, pop-ups and anything else that came to mind but all with the same results…….nothing !

The conditions for fishing got a lot better towards July and the temperature dropped and the wind began blowing. Perfect conditions for fishing you would think? WRONG!

The Carp we think decided to feed on the Crayfish and any other naturals in the lake.

Crashing fish over your baits for days on end with no takes can be very, very frustrating indeed. What do you do? Watch Wait and Hope!

All is not doom and gloom though……

Neal Morten had a super 50lbs 6ozs Mirror from Number One. A new p.b. for him and we even have a good picture !!!

Our two tone mirror has come out at just over 40lbs when last caught last October she was only 30lbs 8ozs.!!!

A lovely looking high 30 from last year has topped the 45lbs this year and many other known fish have just piled on the weight. We have had many new 40’s that were mid 30’s last year.

Some of the other known fish such as “Ruth’s Fish, Chutney, Scar Tail have still to come out so watch this space?? Could be some really good surprises in store?

The fish seem to be feeding in very short spells and taking boilies, tigers and Maize as usual. Heavy bating, light baiting and even single baits have all produced with our Bill’s Lake specials catching constantly.

One thing that does concern me is the amount of anglers coming over to France with Particle that is unprepared, thinking they can just boil it up on the bank !!! Tigers are the worst with a minimum of 10 days preparation required. What they are thinking God only knows?

Bills Lake 2
This lake just keeps doing the business.

With all around suffering the heat and the Carp not having it, it just keeps on proving them all wrong!

With precise baiting and positioning of baits to the “hot spots” the anglers are taking good catches of fish during the week.

The fish are coming on a treat with the new stock of larger fish from this winter are making all the difference.

The fish are responding to “Large” beds of baits with little activity from the Poisson Chats. We think that by feeding on a large scale you are in fact feeding off the Poisson Chats and leaving the carp to feed freely.

One of the groups from Holland put over 100kgs of mixed food in for the carp and were rewarded with over 45 Carp in the week. Is this excessive or just the way to go about it to catch carp???? Many of the other groups have followed suit and have had good results also.

The feed going in isn’t all doilies. The mix used is Hemp, Tigers, Maize and Pellets with boilies fished over it.

The Carp caught are in stunning condition and the Grass carp are putting on good weight. The biggest last week went 31lbs 8ozs !! What a scrap!! This was part of a 20 fish haul including 2 x 30’s and 5 other Grass carp.

Cat Fish

The Cats have been on the munch this year with just this morning an angler on Tree Tops catching a super 81lbs specimen on soap

Yes………SOAP !!!!!!
